The Screen Actors Guild was holding a disciplinary meeting to consider the revocation of former President Trump’s association, but before the SAG could make any announcements, Mr. Trump announced that he was breaking up with them first. Mr. Trump sent a letter of resignation to the organization’s president, Gabrielle Carteris, writing “I no longer wish to be associated with your union”.
“I am writing to you today about the so-called hearing of the Disciplinary Committee that aims to revoke my union membership. Who cares!” the former commander-in-chief wrote. “Although I am not familiar with his work, I am very proud of my work in films like ‘Home Alone 2’, ‘Zoolander’ and ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleep’; and television shows, including ‘The Fresh Prince de Bel’ -Air, ” Saturday Night Live ‘and, of course, one of the most successful shows in television history,’ The Apprentice ‘- to name just a few! ”
The SAG-AFTRA National Council voted overwhelmingly in late January to find the likely cause that Mr. Trump violated the organization’s constitution, citing Mr. Trump’s role in January 6 assault on the Capitol and his threats against journalist.
After claiming that he “helped the cable news business a lot”, shooting on MSNBC and CNN, and claiming that SAG is trying to distract itself from its somber union history, the former real estate tycoon said he was done with the SAG. “You didn’t do anything for me,” wrote Trump.
In response, the SAG issued a two-word statement: “Thank you.”
In addition to actors, SAG-AFTRA also represents broadcast journalists across the country, and the organization claimed that reports of intimidation and physical assaults “increased” during Mr. Trump’s presidency.
Mr. Trump, according to his financial disclosures, received a pension from SAG.
