Blizzard fans waiting to hear about Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 Release dates for Blizzard’s next BlizzConline 2021 will moderate your expectations. Activision Blizzard publisher said in a conference call on Thursday that none of the games should be released in 2021. No launch window has been given.
Activision Blizzard said in a press release that the company did make “significant progress” in its developing titles for “other important intellectual property”, which the company hopes to “further boost growth in 2022 and beyond”.
Executives on the call said Activision Blizzard had another remastered title underway, apparently in line with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. A Blizzard’s remaster Diablo 2 is in development, which could lead Diablo fans to 4 is released. Blizzard also has a mobile spinoff game in development, Diablo Immortal.
Both Overwatch two and Diablo 4, great follow-ups at two important Blizzard franchises, were announced at the company’s annual fan event, BlizzCon, in 2019. At that time, Blizzard gave few details to these franchises, but noted that Overwatch 2 would feature redesigned heroes and similar new faces, debuting dramatic cinematics with a reassembled Overwatch team. The game should be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, Blizzard said at the time.
Diablo 4 has been in development for some time – with the project having changed direction several times. During BlizzCon 2019, game director Luis Barriga said Diablo 4 will “take the series back to its roots”.
Overwatch was released in May 2016. The hero shooter was revealed at BlizzCon in 2014. Blizzard conducted a beta period for Overwatch starting in October 2015.
Diablo 3 was originally released on Windows PC in 2012. It came to consoles later.
