Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 730 new cases, 7 new deaths

The Oregon Health Authority reported on Thursday 730 new confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus and seven more deaths.

The agency also announced that it would begin releasing data on variants of the virus present in Oregon. As of Thursday, there were four cases of the variant first identified in the UK, officials said, and no cases of the South African or Brazilian variant.

Where the new cases are by municipality: Baker (3), Benton (32), Clackamas (48), Columbia (6), Coos (16), Curry (1), Deschutes (17), Douglas (23), Harney (4), Hood River (2) , Jackson (47), Jefferson (13), Josephine (19), Klamath (7), Lake (7), Lane (67), Lincoln (6), Linn (14), Malheur (1), Marion (75) , Multnomah (141), Polk (7), Tillamook (2), Umatilla (55), Union (6), Wallowa (5), Wasco (4), Washington (85) and Yamhill (17).

Who died: The 1,992 death in Oregon from the coronavirus was an 86-year-old man from Baker County who became symptomatic on January 20 after contact with a confirmed case and died on January 30 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center.

The death of a 78-year-old man from Deschutes County, in the year 1993, was positive on January 14 and died on January 31 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.

The death of a 77-year-old man from Jackson County, 77, was positive on January 25 and died on February 2 at the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

The 1995 death is a 77-year-old woman from Marion County who tested positive on December 31 and died on February 2 at Salem Hospital.

The 1996 death was a 91-year-old woman from Marion County who tested positive on January 30 and died on February 2 at Salem Hospital.

The 1999 death is a 99-year-old woman from Wasco County who tested positive on January 30 and died on February 1 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.

The death of a 66-year-old man from Coos County, 66, was positive on January 28 and died on February 3 at Bay Area Hospital.

Unless noted above, each person who died had underlying health problems or state officials were working to determine whether the person had underlying health problems.

The prevalence of infections: On Thursday, the state registered 833 new positive tests out of 19,839 tests carried out, which is equivalent to a positivity rate of 4.2%.

Who was infected: New confirmed or presumed infections grew between the following age groups: 0-9 (27); 10-19 (105); 20-29 (133); 30-39 (125); 40-49 (118); 50-59 (97); 60-69 (62); 70-79 (28); 80 and older (18).

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 261 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in the hospital on Thursday, five fewer than on Wednesday. Of these, 58 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, five fewer than on Wednesday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 486,861 doses of 706,575 received, almost 69% of its supply. Oregon reported 15,173 new doses administered, which include 11,519 on Wednesday and the rest of the previous days.

Since it started: Oregon reported 145,320 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,998 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the country. To date, the state has reported 3,253,665 test lab reports.
