We still have time to wait for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, but now we can take a trip to another corner of the World of Darkness. Today brings the launch of Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, an action game set on the edge of the skin of the RPG world. It is made by Cyanide Studio, those experienced suppliers of janky-but-charmingly ambitious games, and it seems to fit your ouevre.
While Vampire focuses on Machiavellian swindlers, Werewolf is basically about big confused killers, fighting the forces that corrupt Gaia. In Earthblood, this is the evil oil megacorp Endron (a classic video game brand name). So you go, playing as a guy (from the Fianna tribe, if you ask me), to trick the villains into their wolf, human and fighting wolf forms. Its lupus form is sneaky, the hominid has hands for tasks like hacking computers and making nerdy crosses, and the crinos form is for ultraviolence. Including combat strength armor, apparently?
What I saw in the videos looks … a lot of cyanide? I don’t want this to be as damning as it may seem. They play ambitious medium budget games of a rare kind nowadays. I didn’t click on any, but they definitely find their fans. As a lover of Deadly Premonition, I totally respect games that are a little tricky.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is now available on the Epic Games Store for £ 35. It is also available on Xboxes and PlayStations.
