US vaccines in a race for the box virus

Black Americans are lagging behind in COVID-19 vaccinations, data show

When Rev. Miniard Culpepper, senior pastor of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, rolled up his sleeve last month with several other religious leaders, he wanted to “be a model” and encourage people in his black majority community obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine. Due to a combination of distrust historically rooted in the medical system, hesitation in vaccination and often lack of access, many black Americans, who have been disproportionately affected by the virus, are being vaccinated at worryingly lower rates than white Americans. “Vaccines are a critical part of getting us out of COVID and reducing the number of deaths in our community,” Culpepper told ABC News.
