Amid a drop in massive sales and rumors about the sale of its consumer phone business, it seems that Huawei decided to move forward with the launch of its second generation super premium foldable phone later this month

In an officer post on Weibo, Huawei caused the arrival of Mate X2 on February 22. This is the long-awaited next-up to the original Mate X back in 2019 is a little more polished Kill 2020 Xs. The big change, which is not entirely clear in the teaser photo, is that Mate X2 there are rumors to present a flexible foldable screen inside –equal to Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold2instead of the fold-out panel that Huawei used on its previous foldable phones.

When Samsung and Huawei launched their first folding phones, the contrasting constructions of the Galaxy Fold and Mate X generated much debate about which design would end up winning, with a series of pros and cons for each.

On phones like the Galaxy Fold, using a fold-in design seems to offer a little more durability, because when closed, the delicate flexible screen of the phone is protected from scratches by stronger glass or metal sides (although, as we have seen, there are other ways for a foldable phone get damaged) The main disadvantage of an inward folding screen is the thickness, because when the phone is closed, you lose access to the flexible display, which requires phone manufacturers to add a secondary external display, thereby increasing the dimensions of the phone.

For outward-folding phones, the greater radius of curvature means there is less chance of a crease developing in the middle of a flexible screen. Bbecause the flexible screen wraps of Mate X around almost the entire device when closed, Huawei was able to avoid including a secondary monitor and use a single camera module to capture more traditional selfies and photos. This meant that Mate X was significantly thinner than the Galaxy Fold, while having fewer redundant components. However, although Huawei did boxes for Mate X,The flexible screen was often left unprotected, which was understandable source of concern for many buyers.

The Spec rumors for the Mate X2 include an 8 inch main folding screen and a 6.45-inch secondary screen, so looks like huawei may have evaluated Samsung Designs and decided to test an internal folding screen as well.

The Mate X2 can also include integrated pen holder (something the Galaxy Z Fold2 doesn’t have) and a new laptop mode that lets you turn your phone on its side and use it as a super tiny personal computer. Evidence of laptop mode was discovered after some unofficial renderings of the Mate X2 phone appeared onlineand while it certainly requires specialized software or tweaking to work, the Mate X2’s laptop mode can be an important step in the evolution of foldable phones.

THEother rumored specs include a selection of the latest generation components, including support for 5G, a quad camera module with up to 10x zoom, up to 512 GB of storage and 66 W extremely fast fast loading.

Huawei is planning to officially reveal the Mate X2 on February 22, but considering Huawei’s previous folding phones have is only available in China and Huawei is is still being prohibited from including support for Google Mobile Services, it is unlikely that Mate X2 is for sale here on the States.
