Hitman 3 is among the PS4 games that you can upgrade to the PS5 version.

Most PlayStation 4 games can be played on PlayStation 5 thanks to the new console from Sony backward compatibility feature, but some publishers are allowing you to upgrade PS4 games to PS5 versions for free. This allows you to play many with 4K dynamic resolution at 60 frames per second and offers shorter load times, contributing to a better gaming experience.
The PS5 is now available, but it was going in and out of stock at retailers. The digital model costs $ 400 and the disk drive model costs $ 500.

Updates to your game will not happen automatically or through a typical game update, so it’s easy to accidentally continue playing the PS4 version of a game on your new PS5. You have to go to the game’s page on PlayStation Network and choose to upgrade to the PS5 version – this will download the extra data needed for next generation features.
You can also upgrade to PS5 versions if you have a physical PS4 game, as long as you purchased the PS5 with a disk drive. You will always need to use the PS4 disc to play the PS5 version; the update does not give you a free digital copy of the game. You will still download the PS5 update from the PSN, but you will not need a specific PS5 disc – your PS4 will become an authenticator.

If you opted for the digital only PS5 and have a disc, you’re out of luck. There are a few more limitations and caveats:
- Some PS5 versions of current PS4 games have not yet been released.
- The next generation versions will be larger files, so they will take up more precious space on your hard drive.
- You will end up with a new list of trophies (the list for each version is separate).
- Savings for some games will not be transferred.
- Some game updates are only available in multi-generation packages or special editions.
