Sacha Baron Cohen calls Rudy Giuliani in the Golden Globes reaction

Of course, Sacha Baron Cohen made a joke when he responded to the Golden Globe nominations on Wednesday.

The star, writer and producer behind Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was recognized in the acting category for his work in that role. The Borat sequel is also one of the nominees in the category of Best Film, Musical or Comedy. Your turn in a very different film, Aaron Sorkin The Chicago Trial 7, earned him a third nod, this for Best Supporting Actor.

His response: “I am delighted and thrilled that the Hollywood Foreign Press recognized both The Chicago Trial 7 and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. These nominations are a tribute to the talented creative teams that have led and supported both films from the beginning to the moment.

“I want to especially congratulate the visionary of Chicago 7, Aaron Sorkin, and Borats’ Tutar, the incredible Maria Bakalova. These two films are different, but they share a common theme – sometimes we have to protest injustice with our own farce. Thanks to [Hollywood Foreign Press Association] for that ridiculous amount of indications. I’m very honored – and in case we don’t win, I promise to hire Rudy Giuliani to contest the results. “

The former New York mayor who became a lawyer for former President Trump appeared infamously in Borat, where he had a drink in his hotel room with Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova. At the scene, Bakalova was posing as a reporter, who happens to be also the daughter of Cohen’s journalist from Kazakhstan. The audience can see Giuliani lying on the bed, patting Bakalova on the waist and reaching into his pants before Borat enters the room.

Giuliani, who is best known today for challenging the results of the presidential election without evidence, insisted that he was simply tucking his shirt in his pants after his microphone was removed.

As for Cohen, he woke up with Golden Globe nods for the past two years: Best Actor for the Netflix series The spy in 2020 and, in 2019, Best Actor in TV Comedy for Who is America? on Showtime. In 2007, he won the trophy for Best Comedy Actor for the original film Borat.
