“Fuck Robinhood.”
Members of the increasingly popular subreddit r / wallstreetbets were in a fighting mood on Wednesday, pointing to a thirty-second video that the stock trading app Robinhood plans to run during this year’s Super Bowl. At issue, the redditors argue, is the apparent disconnect between the announcement of the announcement to retail investors (theoretically like them) and the fact that Robinhood prevented them from buying GameStop shares last week.
At the time, Robinhood’s movement seemed to interrupt a short tightening in progress and led to more than 30 collective lawsuits.
The Robinhood ad in question, which shows the text “We are all investors” on the screen while a narration sings “you don’t have to become an investor … you were born one”, is now available for viewing on YouTube.
“We built Robinhood for our customers, for the millions of people who felt left behind by America’s financial system,” says a blog post on Wednesday announcing the purchase of the ad.
Notably, comments on the YouTube video are disabled.
This, however, does not prevent anyone from sharing their ideas about the ad on the subreddit r / wallstreetbets – thoughts that include crowdfunding a subreddit’s own Super Bowl ad.
“TL; DR fuck Robinhood, let’s buy a Super Bowl ad space and shit about them,” says the post.
There seems to be a real effort to raise money for the anti-Robinhood ad. At the time of writing, this GoFundMe had raised $ 11,073 from its $ 6,000,000 goal.
Holy Mary.

He also raised the support of actor Leslie David Baker, known (among other things) for playing Stanley Hudson in The office.
“I would love to help you all make this happen,” he posted on Reddit. “If this is something you are seriously thinking about, let me know, my team and I will use all the resources at our disposal to get the ad, film, get the talent, the team and launch it in time for the Super Bowl. You has all my support! πππ½ “

Of course, not everyone is freaking out with Robinhood’s corporate cheering effort.
“The worst thing about Robinhood showing a Super Bowl ad is that he can really convince some people to be his customers,” the air / wallstreetbets moderator told Mashable.
Which, well, Robinhood may not need a Super Bowl ad for that.
