Camar Wheaton signs letter of intent with Alabama

Texas five-star runner Camar Wheaton signed his letter of intent on Wednesday with Alabama.

He was the only remaining committed member of Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class to fail to sign his letter of intent. Wheaton, from Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas, becomes the 26th prospect in the cycle to sign for Maré.

Wheaton is rated as prospect No. 33 overall in the 247 Sports’ compound and ranked second running back. He committed to Alabama in December.

However, Wheaton waited to sign his letter of intent and the two assistants who recruited him for Tuscaloosa – running back coach Charles Huff and special team coordinator / tight-knit coach Jeff Banks – both got new jobs elsewhere in the last month.

Oklahoma, who had been Wheaton’s other finalist, had still been considered at stake for Wheaton.

Wheaton signing with Alabama means that Tide’s 2021 class is the highest rated in the history of the 247 Sports ranking, surpassing that of Florida in 2010.

Wednesday is the national signing day, but Alabama’s work was completed mainly during the initial signing period in December, when it received letters of intent from 24 candidates. Many of them have already enrolled at the university.
