Georgia’s Secretary of State opened an investigation into whether pro-Trump lawyer Lin Wood voted illegally in the November elections.
ABC affiliate station in Atlanta, WSB-TV, first reported the investigation into Wood, which The office of Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger (R), later confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, NPR and other media.
The investigation comes after Wood became one of the most prominent legal voices in ancient President TrumpDonald TrumpGraham rejects Merrick Garland’s request for confirmation at Trump’s attorney’s hearing on February 8 to make the First Amendment case at the impeachment trial Biden faces a crossroads in the virus relief bill MOREThe company’s campaign to overturn election results in key states due to unfounded allegations of widespread electoral fraud.
In an emailed statement to NBC News, the secretary of state’s office said the ongoing investigation is focused on whether Wood was “a legal resident when he voted in November in light of an email he sent [WSB-TV reporter] Justin Gray saying he has been domiciled in South Carolina for several months. “
The office added that, under Georgia state law, “if a person moves to another state with the intention of making it their home, that person will be considered to have lost that person’s home in that state.
Raffensperger’s office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for additional comments.
In a statement sent to WSB-TV and other media on Tuesday evening, Wood said he had “has resided in the State of Georgia since 1955 ”, but officially moved to South Carolina on Monday.
Wood added in the statement: “This is pure harassment by the Georgia Secretary of State because I have revealed credible evidence of electoral fraud on the part of Brad Raffensperger.”
“They are trying to destroy me because I am revealing a level of corruption from top to bottom,” Wood said in comments to the Journal-Constitution. “Brad Raffensperger has a lot of problems with people who were not legitimate citizens of Georgia. I am not one of them. “
Raffensperger has repeatedly refuted allegations of electoral fraud in Georgia and denied Trump’s requests in a January 2nd call for “Find” more than 11,000 ballots to reverse the outcome of the election of the state of Peach. The Washington Post released excerpts from the conference call earlier this month.
Biden won the state of Georgia in November by more than 11,000 votes – the first time a Democrat has won in the trusted red state since 1992, when former President Clinton won a victory there.
State election records revealed that Wood voted in the presidential election during the in-person vote on October 14, although he told WSB-TV that he did not vote in the January Senate elections because he did not believe they were legitimate.
Wood was one of several Trump supporters removed from Twitter in the aftermath of the January 6 pro-Trump crowd attack on Capitol Hill, and the city of Detroit earlier that week asked Wood and other Trump lawyers be banned on attempts to change the outcome of the presidential election.
