Players who could sign with Gamecocks

What to expect from South Carolina football at NSD.

Believe it or not, the second round of Signature Day will begin tomorrow, when football players choose their destinations for the next three to four years. Originally a highly televised media event, the February subscription period lost some of its luster with the addition of the early subscription date. Most high school students now subscribe in December, with many having the opportunity to enroll early and get a head start on their respective campuses.

South Carolina signed nine players at the start of the period, in addition to a series of transfers during the off-season. Still, Gamecocks appear to have five slots available, two of which must be filled by current commits. The final three spots must be reduced to a handful of players, so let’s take a quick look at the players who can fill the remaining spots.

Current Commits

Two players are currently committed to the class and are expected to officially join the squad tomorrow morning.

TJ Sanders

Sanders is one of the best players in the state of Palmetto and has a three star rating from Rivals and 247 Sports. The rival ranks the defensive tackle as the seventh best chance in South Carolina, and he is expected to provide solid depth over the top four.

Kolbe Fields

Fields is a three-star linebacker from the state of Louisiana. He has offers from Houston, Memphis, Oklahoma State and Purdue, but chose to commit to Gamecocks last month. Gamecocks are very thin in position and Fields is expected to provide immediate help.

Final additions

There are also a handful of players who have Gamecocks in their final group. South Carolina has room for three more if the players above sign up.

Juwan Gaston

Gaston is a defensive back from Alabama, with Gamecocks on his list, along with Auburn and South Alabama. The race is expected to end in Auburn and South Carolina, but landing Gaston will present Shane Beamer with a great chance in a position of need. 247 Sports classifies him as a four-star player and the 30th best security in the country.

La’Dareyen Craig

Craig is also a defender for Yellowhammer State, and could join the secondary with Gaston if they both pulled the trigger on Gamecocks tomorrow. The 6-foot-2 corner interrupted nine passes and pulled three interceptions last season. He must choose between South Carolina, Mississippi State and Oregon State.

Tavareon Martin-Scott

Martin-Scott is a linebacker for JUCO of Dodge City (KS), where he is still preparing for a spring season of 2021. His final list includes the state of Mississippi and West Virginia, along with the Gamecocks. He is classified by Rivals as a four-star prospect and would provide immediate help in the position of linebacker.

Jimmori Robinson

Robinson was a former Texas-San Antonio committee that has now reopened its recruitment. He’s hearing from Florida State, Auburn and Jackson State, too, but the Gamecocks seem to be in a good position. The New York product is ranked as one of the top 20 junior college candidates, as well as the third best JUCO defensive end in the country.

Long shot

Trevin Wallace

Wallace has been a target for Gamecocks, but it looks like the four-star prospect is tilted towards SEC rival Kentucky. 247 Sports ranks him as one of the 40 best players in the country and the second best internal linebacker. The Georgia native also has Auburn and Ole Miss on his list, but a surprise compromise with Gamecocks would be huge.
