BlizzCon Online will have free debut to watch this month

Like all physical game events last year, BlizzCon did not happen as usual in November. Blizzard chose to move the convention to an online format and moved BlizzCon 2020 to BlizzConline this month. Would you look at that? It’s almost here, so Blizzard released a trailer and some initial details about what to expect on February 19 and 20.

The new trailer here is just a small teaser, but it comes with the reminder that the benefit of this year’s online format is that BlizzCon is free for everyone to watch. In its blog post, Blizzard says a detailed schedule will be revealed closer to the convention dates, but they outline the basics, at least.

The first day of the event will begin at 2pm PST / 10pm GMT on Friday, February 19 with “an opening segment that includes a first look at some of the latest game content that the development teams have been working on”. It will probably be the big sizzle reel and the important announcements, I think. After that, Blizzard says the event will be divided into six themed channels so you can click to hear about the game you like best. Saturday the 20th will begin at 12pm PST / 8pm GMT. Blizzard says it will focus on the community spotlight, including winners from various contests and exhibitions.

If you are a player of any great Blizzard game, you have probably figured out whether yours will be reviewed, but there is always room for surprises. I’m sure we’ll have at least a nod to Overwatch 2 and some sort of update on Diablo 4’s progress. Hearthstone and World Of Warcraft will certainly get what they deserve.

If you don’t plan on staying up deadly hours of the night watching, don’t worry. Blizzard says you can watch archived videos later.

BlizzConline will start on Friday, February 19th at 2pm PST / 10pm GMT on the BlizzCon, YouTube and Twitch website.
