Matt LaFleur has already changed the defensive and special team coordinators. Could he adjust his offensive game caller as well?
That would mean retiring from those roles, which he has been leading since becoming the Packers’ head coach in 2019.
After finishing the season leading the league in scoring and 5th in yards, the Packers apparently do not need a chance. But LaFleur feels that everything is being considered if it helps the team.
“Regarding the game call, I would have no problem passing this on to [offensive coordinator] Nathaniel Hackett. It’s how much confidence I have in him, ”said LaFleur at his news conference on Monday. “Our process, I think, is very, very efficient in attack. And Nathaniel leads that. But with regard to the desire for that to happen, I think we will continue to talk about it throughout this off-season. And if it’s better for me to give that up for the team, that’s exactly what will happen. “
That said, LaFleur does not expect this to happen on February 1 because, at this point, he does not think it is necessary.
“This is exactly the amount of confidence I have in our offensive team, whether it be myself or Hackett giving the cards, I don’t see the difference,” said LaFleur. “I think that these guys often don’t get the credit they deserve. He’s a great offensive coordinator, really [setting] the table and making sure everything is right so that we can go out there and perform at the highest level. And he does a great job and I just don’t think he gets the recognition he deserves. “
