Jurgen Klopp says there is a “very good” reason why he wants to sign Ben Davies for Liverpool – the defender’s big left foot.
Davies completed a fairy tale move to Anfield on the day of the transfer deadline, and admitted that he would not be surprised if Liverpool fans had never heard of him before his first call with the club.
The 25-year-old joins a team from Liverpool, which was wiped out by injuries this season, and Klopp is delighted with the signing.
“Left center halves you don’t have often because all right center halves can play on the left too; most of them probably even prefer it,” said the head of the Reds.
“The southpaw [ones] I’ve never seen him play on the right side. But that was not the reason.
“But the fact that he has a good left foot was one reason why he has a very good left foot.”

Klopp admits that Liverpool probably would not have signed Davies had they not been in such a desperate situation with injuries.
“What I like about Ben is that it shows that every situation creates opportunities,” he added.
“I think it’s probably clear that in a normal transfer window, without any problems, we wouldn’t look at Preston if there was a player for us or something. It is not very likely.
“But since we saw it and since our situation became increasingly clear – the problems we had – when we saw it, we were very excited about it and thought, ‘Wow.’
“He’s a boy who played his whole life for Preston, he’s almost there. We see the potential for truth.

“We see the quality and also the potential because he is 25 years old and there is much to come”.
Davies detailed his enthusiasm for the move, adding: “I look forward to going in and playing in front of everyone and showing everyone what I can do.
“I’m sure that many fans and people don’t know [me], or didn’t even see me play.
“It is definitely an exciting time and I think they will enjoy watching me when I am playing well.”
