LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Health officials in Lancaster County will begin vaccinating people in the Phase 1B category starting this Friday, starting with those aged 80 and over.
According to Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Director Pat Lopez, Lancaster County, one of two Nebraska counties that has not yet moved to Phase 1B, will make the move on Friday.
More information about who qualifies in Phase 1B can be found here.
Vaccines will be administered at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. The city said it would begin contacting people on Tuesday to schedule appointments for vaccination at the PBA.
Many viewers contacted us on 10/11 NOW with questions about this process.
Many viewers wanted to know what the health department is doing to accommodate people with mobility problems.
“We are extending the time to have more time, having more volunteers there and working with street signs and other outside people and assistance, if necessary, to park and place them,” said Lopez.
Lopez said the clinic will be on the lower level, they will have wheelchairs, free parking in the attached garage and complimentary vehicles.
The county said Phase 1B will take months. It includes about 45,000 people in this age group, essential workers, such as educators and police, and people with underlying diseases.
The city wants to remind people, if you are in that category, it cannot just appear. You must first register to obtain the vaccination on the county website.
If you do not have access to the computer, you can call 402-441-8006.
Lincoln City Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said that at 11:45 am, 66,000 people signed up for the vaccine through the Lancaster County registry.
In addition, during the week of February 15, the City is allocating all doses to communities of independent retirees and working with local pharmacies to vaccinate people in their homes.
