After we first identified the feature under development in September last year, Google appears to be preparing a launch of “access” functions for family members in the Google Home app.
Being able to share your Google Home with other users is useful for families and roommates, ensuring that everyone can interact with smart home devices on their phones and speakers. However, it has long been a unique approach for everyone. However, this will soon change with the arrival of new “access” functions in the Google Home app.
The staff of Android Police I noticed that the Google Home app for Android is at least implementing the UI for this change, although nothing seems to be fully functional at this point. In the “family” settings, you can see a new “Access Summary” page, which lists “access details” and “devices”. At the moment, the “details” page is blank, but marks everyone as managers. There is also a device list that shows all devices connected to the home, but there are no options for that yet. Google offers a little explanation about this feature on the page, but presumably, this paragraph may change when settings are changed.
Everyone in this house can see all activities and access all devices and settings, including devices that are added later. They can also edit all the settings in the home and add and remove devices, services and people from this home.
This is probably waiting for a few more changes to the Google server before the functions are fully functional. In any case, it seems like a useful new option!
