Someone leaks a remastered XBLA version of the Goldeneye 007

Someone leaked a full game video of a 2010 remastered version Goldeneye 007 game intended for Xbox Live Arcade. A little history lesson for those who don’t know: it was rare that he originally developed the first Goldeneye 007 game for the N64, making a multiplayer game with a campaign based on the 1995 James Bond movie of the same name. The game was a success, to say the least, and for a long time people wanted to see the game revive on a modern console. What did they get when Activision somehow got the rights to make a reinvented version of the game with Daniel Craig as a bond instead of Pierce Brosnanand more content added to the game to make it a little more competitive and rich for multiplayer. Although fun and modern as it was released on the Nintendo Wii, it is widely accepted that the 2010 version does not compare to the original. But that hasn’t stopped Xbox from wanting to remaster its own Xbox Live Arcade.

Apparently, the company went through the process of obtaining the source code and worked to remaster the remaster for the XBLA, but was never able to involve all parties to make it work. As Phil Spencer of Xbox said in Twitter, there were “Many different parts to work with, we always give up.” This makes sense when you imagine that Rare (which is now owned by Microsoft) had to enter into an agreement with MGM (which owns the Bond franchise), and the game ended up being published by Nintendo. Add in the fact that they are working on the compilation of Activision 2010 and this is a recipe for many cooks who want their fair share of the pie to be worth publishing. But, thanks to those who leaked the footage you see below, we can now have a taste of how this may have happened. This video shows the complete Goldeneye 007 experience, with multiplayer and Brosnan returned to the role of Bond.

Oh, what could have been. And who knows, maybe that will spark interest again from all sides to cooperate and release the thing so that everyone can play.
