Former FDA chief Scott Gottlieb said that the COVID-19 vaccines should be sufficient to slow the spread of new variants.

In an interview on Sunday, Gottlieb said that vaccines are the best medicine against Brazilian and South African variants, as Americans continue to be immunized.

Former government official Trump said health officials should look for areas of greatest risk, particularly Miami and San Diego. However, Gottlieb is confident that health experts know how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Now we know what works. Prior immunity and vaccines appear to be just as effective against this new variant. So, as we further immunize the population and if people continue to wear masks and stay vigilant in those parts of the country, we can keep that under control, ”said Gottlieb. “It is not too late, but it is a real risk for these regions of the country now.”

Gottlieb urged Americans not to take their foot off the beat when fighting the virus and to remain vigilant with patterns of social detachment.
