The cumulative total of deaths in Orange County exceeds 3,000 on January 30 – Orange County Register

Forty-three new deaths were reported by the county on Saturday, increasing the total number of COVID deaths to 3,018. More than a third of reported deaths, 1,143, occurred in January.

Data on deaths in the county are compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent recorded death was on January 22.

The Orange County Health Agency reported 1,279 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, January 30, increasing the county’s cumulative total to 231,036 cases since the screening began.

The county also reported 1,442 patients in local hospitals, 79 fewer than in the previous report. There are 394 patients listed in intensive care units on Saturday, 32 fewer than in Friday’s report. The hospital’s patient totals are almost at the same level as they were in mid-December.

It is estimated that 20,223 cases of the virus have been reported in Orange County in the past 14 days.

The county update said 2,665,629 tests have been performed for coronavirus since testing started locally, with at least 22,215 new tests since the previous report.

Of the 3,018 cumulative deaths reported by the virus, 827 were qualified residents in nursing facilities, 323 were in assisted living facilities, one was an OC inmate and five were listed as homeless.

The breakdown of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 34% (1,026, up to 11)
  • 75-84: 23.33% (704, up to 15)
  • 65-74: 19.29% (583, up to 10)
  • 55-64: 13.34% (401, up to 4)
  • 45-54: 6.59% (199, up to 1)
  • 35-44: 2.15% (65, up to 2)
  • 25-34: 1.09% (33)
  • 18-24: 0.2% (6)
  • 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)

It is estimated that 173,862 people recovered from the virus by Saturday. The count of people who recovered is based on the cumulative case count from the previous 28 days.
