Chaos erupts due to Tokyo PS5 sale

With the supply of the Sony PlayStation 5 still quite scarce worldwide, players in Tokyo took advantage of the recent chance to get their hands on the next-generation console.

Earlier this week, Akihabara’s Yodobashi Camera received a large shipment of PS5s that caused chaos when launched. As one of Japan’s largest electronics stores, the sale had an estimated 300 ticket entries on a first come, first served basis for the chance to purchase a PS5. With many people also adhering to the madness, as the location of the Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara does not require customers to have their black credit card to buy the console, a requirement created to ban retailers.

The crowd that gathered at the venue began to push and shove, forcing check-out counters and staff to retreat. Finally, the local police were called and canceled the sale due to the aggressive character that broke out in the midst of a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus issued by the Japanese government.
