Gamecocks make another hire for the recruitment department

The South Carolina football program made another major signing for its recruiting department. Former member of the Kansas football team Drew Hixson is joining the Gamecocks football program under the command of the first year coach Shane Beamer.

Hixson holds the title of Jayhawks Scouting Director and will have a similar role in South Carolina when it comes to talent assessment. He is expected to work closely with the Player’s new Personnel Director Taylor Edwards, which was hired in South Carolina to replace Drew Hughes, who left for Texas earlier this month.

None of the recruitment department’s hires have been announced by the school at this time. Edwards, however, has already changed his Twitter profile to reflect his work in South Carolina, including his title.

Hixson joined the Kansas football team in February 2019 as scouting director, who, according to his bio page on the Jayhawks website, says: “He is responsible for identifying and evaluating potential customers. Hixson will also assist the recruiting team in all aspects, including unofficial and official visits. “

Hixson spent the 2018 season in Virginia, which was his first full-time job. He worked for two years in Georgia as a student and was also a recruiting assistant. Beamer and Hixson coincided during their time with the Bulldogs, both working for the program in 2016 and 2017.

South Carolina’s football recruiting department is starting to form. Campus recruiting director Jessica Jackson is expected to remain in Columbia as part of Beamer’s team. The same is true of the assistant director of on-campus recruitment, Jasmin Moses.

Edwards was hired by Maryland coach Mike Locksley as director of recruiting operations just over two years ago. He helped Maryland build a recruiting class that is currently ranked 18th in the 247Sports Composite national ranking. Edwards also previously worked in Arkansas and Alabama.
