A Massachusetts congressman who received both doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine tested positive for the virus on Friday.
Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch tested negative before attending the inauguration of President Joe Biden on January 20th. He was tested again after a team member from his Boston office caught the virus earlier this week.
Pfizer said it could take seven days for the second dose to take effect, NBC 10 Boston reported. Lynch’s office said he received the second dose of the vaccine before taking office on January 20, nine days before his positive test.
The Pfizer vaccine was found to be 95% effective against the virus, although it has not been tested against mutations that came from the United Kingdom and South Africa.
In his statement, his office said Lynch had no symptoms of COVID-19. He will be quarantined and will vote by proxy in Congress next week.
Lynch was the second Democratic congressman from Massachusetts to test positive in a few days. MP Lori Trahan said on Thursday that she had tested positive after several negative tests.
