The donations were released in a filing on Friday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) through WinRed, the Republican Party’s online fundraising platform, and reported for the first time by Bloomberg. WinRed reported raising $ 207 million for Republican Party candidates and committees in total from the last week of November to the end of the year.
Most of the money that Trump raised – $ 68 million – went to Trump Make America Great Again, which in turn divides donations between Save America, the political action committee the former president started after the election, and the RNC .
Save America, which started at the end of Trump’s presidency, sent a barrage of fundraising requests saying the contributions would go to a legal fund to help challenge the election results in court. However, the vast majority of the funds ended up flowing to Save America, with the remainder going to the RNC.
The WinRed lawsuit shows that the Trump campaign raised $ 14.1 million from online donors, while Save America raised $ 501,224. Trump Victory, the vehicle that Trump used to court large donors, raised just $ 24,965 online.
Trump spent the last weeks of his presidency after the November 3 election, raising unsubstantiated allegations that widespread voter fraud and irregularities cost him a second term. However, virtually all of his lawsuits were dismissed due to lack of evidence or legitimacy, and his efforts to persuade a large enough group of state and federal lawmakers to prevent President Biden’s electoral college victory certification failed.
