NJ Weather: Winter storm blowing up with 20 to 30 inches of snow. Weather updates, storm track, gusts of wind, higher snow projections.

First was the Arctic air explosion that lasted three days. And now New Jersey is gearing up for the second wave of violent winter weather, with a major coastal storm expected to arrive this weekend.

Meteorologists have increased their snowfall predictions, saying the slow storm can blow up to 20 to 30 centimeters in many parts of the state, generate gusts of up to 35 to 80 km / h and threaten the Jersey coast with breaking waves, the beach coastal erosion and flooding.

In addition, the National Weather Service has expanded its surveillance of winter storms to include more counties in northern New Jersey, in addition to New York City and half of Long Island.

Here is a look at the latest snowfall projections, expected storm weather and active alerts, starting on Saturday morning.

HOW MUCH SNOW

The National Meteorological Service is still asking for very light snow in the coastal areas of Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May counties, because rain and hail must mix, but as much as 20 to 30 centimeters of snow over a wide range of the state.

The new snowfall projections (which can be seen on the two forecast maps below) cover the entire duration of the storm, so they were expected to be slightly higher than previous weather service projections.

STRONG WINDS

Meteorologists from the weather service are asking for gust winds of up to 35 mph in inland areas and as high as 40 to 50 mph in coastal areas, causing “the creation of significant blowing and drifting snow.”

“Traveling can be very difficult,” especially during the afternoon and Monday night, warned the weather service.

STORM

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service say the first snowflakes are expected to start falling in southwestern New Jersey by late Sunday morning or early Sunday afternoon, but are not expected to arrive in central and northern New Jersey until the late afternoon of Sunday or Sunday night.

The snow is expected to continue on Sunday night, all day on Monday and overnight on Monday, before ending Tuesday morning.

WINTRY MIX

STORM ALERTS

FLOOD THREAT

Meteorologists say there is a serious threat of moderate flooding in the coastal sections of the state, because the storm could intensify over the ocean and push large volumes of water into the land, especially during the high and low tide cycles on Monday and Tuesday.

This threat concerns the state’s Atlantic coast, along with the bottom of Delaware Bay.
