A streamer cleared the entire Super Mario World area entirely with voice controls.
Twitch’s juzcook streamer has taken on the task of tackling the demanding platform levels of Super Mario World with nothing but voice commands and infinite patience. In place of a gamepad, juzcook used the VoiceBot program to configure a series of macro commands that would feed an emulator with the desired inputs; for example, saying “tap to the right” to make Mario take a step to the right or “jump to the left” to make him jump to the left.
There are two main problems with this approach: it takes a lot longer to say “jump left” than it does to press left and B at the same time, and it takes a little longer for the program to recognize each command then enter the entry in the game. These are extremely pertinent questions when trying to jump over a series of bottomless pits or directly over Iggy Koopa’s strange little head.
World 1 was conquered in a single session without a Gameover! I found some cool backup strategies tonight 🥳 pic.twitter.com/lcUJynQEr9January 27, 2021
Still, juzcook finally managed to finish World 1 after giving macros some more specific optimization passes and commands, and the voice-activated fight will continue as the streamer takes over the rest of the game. Just thinking about experiencing some of those Chocolate Island stages with nothing but repeated screams of “Skip!” And stop! “Is enough to give us the creeps, but we have faith.
Bowser’s Fury does not support voice commands, but it turns everything into cats, and this is probably much better for your blood pressure.
