‘Wonder Years’ reset between three ABC Comedy Pilot orders

ABC chose three comedy pilots for the 2021 pilot season.

Two of the pilots – a reboot of “The Wonder Years” and “Maggie” – are individual cameras and will be produced by 20th Television. The third, an untitled multi-camera by Regina Hicks, is produced by ABC Signature.

The Wonder Years reboot was originally announced as being in development in July. It will show how a middle-class black family in Montgomery, Alabama, in the turbulent late 1960s, ensured that they were also the wonderful years for them. The series comes from writer and executive producer Saladin Patterson with Lee Daniels and Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment also executive producers. “Wonder Years” star Fred Savage will direct the pilot and executive producer. Neal Marlens, the creator of the original program, will serve as a consultant.

“Maggie” was written by Maggie Mull and Justin Adler, both executive produced. Evan Hayes will also be the executive producer. On the show, a young woman tries to cope with life while coming to terms with her skills as a psychic. She can see everyone’s future, but her present is a mess. It is based on the short namesake by Tim Curcio

Hicks is the writer and producer of the multi-camera project. Viola Davis and Julius Tennon will serve as executive producers for JuVee Productions, with Larry Wilmore as Wilmore Films’ supervisors and executive producers. The show follows three ex-fraternity sisters who lost touch after college and got together during a crucial point in their lives. They realize that sometimes it’s okay to give up, and when you do, no one will be on your side like your friends.

The three comedy orders join two recently announced ABC drama drama choices – “Queens” and “Epic”. It was announced in November that ABC gave a boost to the untitled multi-camera comedy series, starring Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer, coming from “Modern Family” co-creator Chris Lloyd and executive producer Vali Chandrasekaran.
