Co-creator Marta Kauffman said “Getting Julia Roberts was incredibly exciting.”
“We knew she would have the right touch for that,” said Kauffman. “And when she said yes, it was very good.”
That fax went a little further.
Alexa Junge, one of the show’s writers, said Roberts was interested in Perry “from a distance because he is so charming”.
“There was a lot of flirting because of the fax,” she said. “She was giving him questionnaires like, ‘Why should I go out with you?’ And everyone in the writers’ room helped him explain to her why. “
Roberts and Perry dated briefly after their appearance on the show.
