6 new COVID-19 deaths in Tuolumne County, 6 new cases in Calaveras

Tuolumne County – Public Health reports six deaths of residents of Tuolumne County attributed to COVID-19. The state notifies Tuolumne Public Health of the likely deaths from COVID that require further investigation. The investigation confirmed that these six individuals, who had been released from the isolation of COVID-19, later died. Individuals include a man in his 60s, two men and a woman in his 80s and a man and a woman in his 90s.

There were 6 new community cases in Tuolumne County today and they all seem to be isolating. A total of 7 individuals were released from isolation and 4 are currently hospitalized, compared with 6 yesterday.

New cases in the community include 1 man and 1 woman in their 30s, 1 man in their 60s and 2 men and 1 woman in their 70s.

Tuolumne County has a total of 3,520 cases divided between 2,279 community cases and 1,241 cases of inmates at the Sierra Conservation Center. The total tested is 23,986, 35 less than yesterday due to data wiping, including removing duplicates. The total of recovered community cases is listed as 2,116 with 122 active community cases. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports 61 cases of active inmates today.

Calaveras County – Calaveras public health reports 6 new cases of COVID-19 and active cases increased from 2 to 112. A total of 1,492 are listed as recovered, an increase of 4. The report notes that COVID-19 hospitalizations remain in 4 residents of Calaveras. The total number of cases is 1,626 with 735 men, 868 women and 17 with unreported genders. The majority, 722 cases of covidae, are in the age group 18 to 49 years old, and there are 376 listed as over 65 years old. Calaveras’ public health reports that it received 2,321 vaccinations, 121 more than yesterday, and continues to distribute doses to those eligible. Calaveras remains in the purple layer with 41.9 cases per day per 100,000 and an average positivity rate of 11.9% in 7 days.

Tuolumne also remains in the purple layer of the Blueprint for a Safer Economy color layer system. California Department of Public Health (CDPH) officials released their update reporting Tuolumne in 21.8 new COVID-19 cases per day per 100,000, and an average positivity rate of 5.4% in 7 days. Both Tuolumne and Calaveras have their numbers adjusted due to the low population. Moth remains on the red layer.

According to state guidance, the purple level means:

  • Restaurants can open for outdoor dining
  • Certain low-risk youth sports competitions can be resumed
  • Manicure and hairdressing salons can reopen indoors with modifications
  • Gyms can operate outdoors with modifications

Calaveras Public Health has partnered with Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center to vaccinate people living in Calaveras County who are 65 years of age or older. People aged 65 and over interested in receiving the vaccine should call (209) 754-2564. Callers must provide their full name, date of birth and telephone number. Test: A mobile COVID-19 test team shared between Tuolumne, Mariposa and Calaveras counties and Yosemite National Park. The touring venues, which will be open at the Groveland Community Hall on Mondays and at Tuolumne Memorial Hall on Thursdays, from 7 am to 7 pm.
