Shane Beamer does not think there will be a recruiting coordinator who will train a field position for South Carolina Gamecocks.
But never say never. At least not yet.
“For me, I think that many times at that time, at the beginning of college football, there was not necessarily that player’s personnel department, which that guy managed a lot,” said Beamer. “I’m not against it and I know Greg (Adkins) has been a recruiting coordinator and has done this at a high level in several places, so I’m certainly open to that.
“I think there are more urgent things now for our team to do. We have a team of staff that we are trying to fill that takes care of a lot of that. “
In other words, times have changed. The way college staff are structured is very different now than it was when Beamer coordinated South Carolina’s recruiting efforts in 2009 and 2010.
“Just look at the volumes of teams and the way they exploded; it’s a little bit different than it was five years ago, ”said Beamer,“ so it’s certainly something I’m open to, but nothing I think we’re pushing for now that we have to have that title. “
For now, South Carolina is without a player personnel director, although Taylor Edwards must be brought in from Maryland.
“I think it will be (discussed) the next time we talk, hypothetically speaking,” said Beamer, “if that person could get in there too.
“A lot of interest in that position. Desire Drew (Hughes) good. Hopeful of having someone in the building here very soon. “
Hughes recently left the position of personal director of the player in South Carolina, after accepting a similar position in Texas. Hughes was on the team at Columbia for less than a year. Its predecessor, Matt Lindsey, is now connected Lane KiffinOle Miss employees as general manager.
Edwards has been the director of recruiting operations in Maryland for just over two years. He previously worked in Arkansas, Alabama, Jacksonville State and Samford.
