While we already know what to expect from amiibo functionality in Nintendo Switch games today, it is always a good idea to know exactly what will happen when they are digitized in a given game.
In case of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, is a game divided into two different adventures.
To use an amiibo in Super Mario 3D World, you need to display a small amiibo symbol and then scan your picture. Here is the full explanation, courtesy of Destructoid:
“Using amiibo in Mario 3D World part is very simple: you hold down the left button during playback to open the amiibo symbol prompt when on a level and then scan. 99% of the figures create random power-ups or a 1UP mushroom.“
As already stated on the game’s official website, Cat Mario summons an invincible White Cat costume, and Cat Peach can create random power-ups – but apparently has no “special” functionality.
In the new add-on adventure Bowser’s Fury, the “two main figures” for this mode are Bowser and Bowser Jr, and “everything else will summon random power-ups“. Again, you hold down the left button on the D-Pad to scan the numbers. Here is the full summary of the source:
“Using Bowser on the NFC amiibo point will immediately wake Fury Bowser out of his sleep. Although it is usually a danger that needs to be managed and avoided, calling Bowser has its advantages, as certain walls / obstacles can only be destroyed by Bowser’s Fury Skills. So if you need it to appear immediately to enter a specific area, you don’t have to wait for it. We tested several Bowser amiibo, and figures like Wedding Bowser also perform the same functionality. “
“Bowser Jr. is also special, allowing you to trigger a kind of explosion. You cannot send spam because you have a waiting time: there is not much more than that!”
It is important to note that Bowser and Bowser Jr. amiibo are not classified as unique / special in Super Mario 3D World.
