Detroit Lions added another coach to their team. Like first reported by ESPN Field Yates, Lions are hiring Chicago Bears linebacker trainer Mark DeLeone.
DeLeone has spent the past two seasons in Chicago, following Matt Nagy, with whom he trained alongside Kansas City for years. He started at the University of Iowa as a defense assistant. In 2012, he had his first chance in the NFL as a Jets defense assistant.
He has trained in the linebacker position since 2016, helping players like Roquan Smith to grow in his career. In Kansas City, he also worked alongside Lions linebacker Reggie Ragland, who is expected to become a free agent in March.
DeLeone apparently decided to leave Chicago after defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano retired and the Bears announced that security technician Sean Desai had secured the promotion to replace Pagano. DeLeone is not currently listed on the Bears technical team on its official website.
In addition to DeLeone, Lions officially announced Anthony Lynn as their next offensive coordinator, as previously reported. In addition, Dave Birkett from the Detroit Free press is reporting that tight end coach Ben Johnson is being hired by the Lions.
