South Carolina Governor’s Three Schools

We are very proud of the students at our Governor’s School here in Greenville (It is theirs beautiful building behind Medusa Tree in Falls Park)but DYK there is two other governor schools in South Carolina that focus on science and math + agriculture?

The Governor’s Schools are “Residential, public and state-funded secondary schools” that provide a immersive learning experience for school age students. These schools are like the college where students programs are individualizedas a college graduate – and juniors + seniors, and some exceptional sophomores, I can live on campus.

Here’s a look at our state’s Governor Schools:

📍 Greenville, SC

This arts + humanities school is located right here in Greenville and offers a experience centered on the arts where students have the opportunity to pursue all their artistic interests and passions. They offer five programs: creative writing, dance, drama, music and visual arts. There are also several summer programs.

📍 Hartsville, SC

This school encourages young students to go beyond their perceived academic skills. Some of the GSSM courses include – Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Science Fiction Topics: Star Trek and Biology of Vertebrates. They offer residential courses and virtual distance learning too.

Orm McCormick, SC

Created last year, this is the newest addition to the State Governor’s Schools. JLDH welcomes anyone who wishes to receive practical training inside agribusiness, forestry, land management, agriculture, food science, and more. Its programs are designed to help students learn how to properly assess the needs of modern farms + agriculture.

🎬 Teyonah Parris | Graduated from the School of Arts and Humanities. She’s a actress + producer. You can see it in White ones, Chi-Raq, If Beale Street could speak, and, more recentlystarring as Monica Rambeau in the new Marvel series on Disney +, WandaVision.

🎭 Patina Miller | Patina Miller made it feature film premieres in 2014 as Commander Paylor in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. She is also a Tony Award winning Broadway Actress.

💻 Wilson White | Wilson graduated from GSSM in 1999 and is currently the Google Director of Public Policy and Government Relations. In this role, he manages the company’s global strategy, campaigns and defense initiatives in artificial intelligence.

⚖️ The Honorable Shiva Hodges | After graduating from GSSM in 1991, Shiva went to Law School and it was one of yyoungest federal judges in the United States when appointed to the bank in 2010.

💻 Rachel Inman | Rachel Inman graduated from visual arts program in 2007. She is part of UX leading design team to Google Maps. She was named as one of 10 pioneer women in design list by Creative block in 2018.

🎥 Danielle Brooks | After attending Governor’s School, Brooks graduated from The Juilliard School. You probably know her from her role as Taystee on Netflix Orange is the new black.

✏️ Malia Griggs | Malia is a trade editor at SELF and was previously in The Daily Beast, Comedy Central + Cosmopolitan.

💃🏾 Marija Abney | Marija Abney graduated from dance program in 2003. She played several roles, but you probably saw her in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War as a member of the Wakanda female army.
