The final race of the show finds the trio of friends “on the verge of defining who they really are and the best way to make their mark in the world”, according to the official synopsis. “Their future is bright and their love and mutual support will never change.”
The fourth season ended on July 16, 2020, two episodes before its order of 18 episodes as a result of the stoppage of coronavirus production. In the defact season finale, Sutton ventured home for comfort after her husband Richard left her, but instead found several bottles of drink in his alcoholic mother’s refrigerator. So, while drunk drowning her sorrows, Sutton stayed with her married ex-boyfriend. Elsewhere, Kat texted Eva saying that things between them were too complicated to continue, while Jane challenged Jacqueline’s decision to crush an inappropriate workplace story.
Looking at season 5, host Wendy Straker Hauser previously told TVLine: “I feel like The Bold Type always comments on what’s happening in the world and we don’t avoid unpleasant conversations. There is a real opportunity for The Bold Type to dig deeper and explore more stories with more women of color and various backgrounds, and to really challenge the conversations that are going on today. [That’s] something really interesting that if we were lucky enough to explore, we would really go there. ”(For more information on what’s to come, check out our final post mortem with Hauser.)
“The Bold Type is a program that defines the Freeform brand. It has been invigorating, identifiable and fun to see Kat, Jane and Sutton trust their friendship to navigate the complexities of modern life, ”Freeform President Tara Duncan said in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite shows and I’m proud to be giving the series a farewell to Wendy, the incredible cast and crew and the beloved fans that everyone deserves.”
