‘The Blacklist’ renewed for season 9 on NBC

The drama is among the series with the longest script currently on the network.

The blacklist will remain active for another season on NBC.

The network renewed the drama for a ninth season in 2021-22. The recovery comes after just three episodes of season eight have aired, largely due to production delays at the start of the season caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The blacklist is currently the third series with the longest running script on NBC, behind only Law and Order: SVU and Chicago Fire. (Chicago PD is also in its eighth season, but premiered a few months later.) The series led by James Spader and Megan Boone continues to perform steadily on Friday nights, with its first two episodes having an average rating of 1.2 on main demographic group of adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers, including viewing and streaming delayed to date. Both numbers are more than double the initial program numbers (0.4 and 3.6 million).

The show is also very popular on Netflix: Per Nielsen, The blacklist ranked ninth among all streaming series acquired in 2020, with almost 14.5 billion minutes of viewing.

Along with Spader and Boone, the cast includes Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, Laura Sohn and Harry Lennix.

The blacklist comes from Davis Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television and Universal Television. John Eisendrath, Jon Bokenkamp, John Davis, John Fox, James Spader, Lukas Reiter, Laura A. Benson, Daniel Cerone and Sean Hennen are executive producers.
