2022 BMW M5 CS unveiled

BMW is launching an even faster and more powerful version of its high-capacity M5 sedan, the automaker announced on Tuesday. Called the M5 CS, it has 627 horsepower – 10 more than the M5 Competition – and a 0-60 time of just 2.9 seconds. It is the fastest and most powerful road car BMW has ever built, according to the company.

Much like the M2 CS hardcore, the M5 CS is elevated to 11, leaving comfort and habitability aside for the best performance on the track. BMW says it has cut 230 pounds from the M5’s total weight thanks to reduced sound insulation and a litany of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic parts, including the roof, hood, divider, spoiler, diffuser and mirror covers. Other exterior changes include hood openings, red-painted calipers for standard carbon ceramic brakes and bronze finish on grilles, badges and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Of course, the best changes are the updates that are hidden underneath. These 10 extra horsepower come from a new version applied to the 4.4-liter V-8 biturbo under the hood. Maximum torque remains the same at 553 lb-ft, but is now available from 1,800 to 5,950 rpm – 90 rpm more than before. Like the standard M5, it sends power to all four wheels through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and an AWD bogie system with three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. The maximum speed is 190 mph.

This extra thrust is supported by stiffer engine mounts, 10 percent stiffer springs, stiffer tow link ball joint assemblies and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar. There is also a 0.2 inch drop in the ride height and a more negative curvature at the front. The standard adaptive dampers were readjusted for the new suspension parts, as well as the optional Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires at no cost.

In addition to the normal M5 color selection, CS buyers will also have two BMW Individual colors specially chosen to choose from: Frozen Brands Hatch metallic gray and Frozen Deep green metallic, the last of which can be seen in the photos above. Inside, there are carbon seats in the front and two individual seats for the rear passengers (the central seat has been excluded). All four seats have a Nürburgring map printed on the headrests.

Production of the 2022 BMW M5 CS is scheduled to begin in March 2021. The base price is $ 142,995 including destination, a $ 30,000 prize pool over the M5’s competition. The company does not reveal at this point how many units have been allocated to the US, but says that they will start arriving at dealerships in the second half of 2021. Considering the high price and the niche segment, we bet there won’t be many of these cars in dispute . It is better to call your dealer now if you want to find one.
