At the games, Roland was honorably discharged from the military unit, Crimson Lance, and returned to a life of hunting and looting with the help of shotguns, turrets and assault rifles.
Hart will star in the film with Cate Blanchett as the siren thief Lilith. The film will be directed by the Hostel’s director, Eli Roth. Randy Pitchford, founder of Gearbox, is the executive producer of the film.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” Roth said in a press release. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we look forward to thrilling the audience with a side of Kevin that they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an incredible Roland. “
Hart is best known for his stand-up comedy, but he has led the box office with several action comedy films over the past decade, including Jumanji’s films. Hart also appeared in the Ride Along franchise with Ice Cube and Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson.The film Borderlands will be written by Craig Mazin, who recently wrote the critically acclaimed Chernobyl miniseries for HBO. Mazin is currently developing a Last of Us miniseries for HBO as well.
The press release also announces that the Borderlands franchise has exceeded 66 million units sold worldwide. Borderlands 2 is the biggest game in the franchise with 24 million copies sold. The most recent title, 2019 Borderlands 3, sold more than 11 million units.
Here is a list of all the video games that are being adapted as a movie. That list includes the film Uncharted, which has just been postponed to 2022.
Roth also said he wants to put Borderlands cosplayers in the film as a way of honoring fans.
