A fan theory about a crucial scene in the 1994 Disney film The Lion King is ruining his childhood on TikTok.
The dark theory suggests that Scar, the film’s villain, eats his brother Mufasa after killing him. This scene starts with Scar pushing Mufasa to his death and ends with Simba nestling in his father’s body. After Simba runs away, it is never explained what happens to Mufasa’s carcass.
That’s where TikTok user Christian Jones comes in. While watching the movie, he wondered what happened to Mufasa’s body and, during his research, he found that, although lions don’t normally have natural predators, they sometimes eat each other.
Jones supports his theory by showing another scene in The Lion King where Scar is seen playing with a skull that could be from Mufasa. Jones even searches Google for images of lion skulls, which look strangely similar to that of the cartoon.
“My entire childhood is ruined,” commented one person. “I can really cry.”
“It got a lot darker now,” added another.
“WHAT IN THE CIRCLE OF LIFE,” someone said.
Others were quick to point out that the skulls didn’t match enough to be convincing (apparently, there’s some sort of TikTok skull collecting community), but in most cases, users were shocked that they had never thought of the consequences of Mufasa’s death .
In fact, hyenas can sometimes eat lions, especially if they are dead – because, of course, it is free food. Furthermore, since The Lion King was based on Hamlet, there must be some image of a skull somewhere in the film.
