50 MP at up to 30 FPS, 8K Video, $ 6,500

Sony announced the Alpha 1 mirrorless camera, a camera that combines all of Sony’s cutting edge technologies into one body, creating a 50 megapixel camera that can capture photos at up to 30 frames per second, without blackout, as well as video from 8K.

Sony Alpha 1 is a combination / condensation of all of Sony’s most advanced technologies in one body. It features a new 50.1 megapixel full-frame CMOS Exmor RS image sensor in combination with an updated BIONZ XR image processing engine with eight times more processing power compared to the BIONZ X processor.

It can shoot up to 30 frames per second – the fastest shooting speed ever – without blackout while also combined with Sony’s autofocus technology that allows up to 120 autofocus calculations per second, which is twice the speed of the a9 II .

This 50.1 megapixel sensor is capable of 15 points of dynamic range and does not sacrifice any ISO performance previously expected.

Even with the high pixel count of this sensor, the Alpha 1 offers high sensitivity with low noise, in addition to more than 15 points of dynamic range for video and 15 points for photos, for smooth and natural gradations from shadows to highlights, thanks to its state-of-the-art processing system, in a wide ISO sensitivity range of 100-32,000 (expandable to 50-102,400 when taking pictures).

In addition, the Alpha 1 has a high resolution OLED display: 0.64 million 0.64 million type OLED Quad-XGA electronic display (approx.) With the world’s first refresh rate of 240 fps.

It also features a quiet, vibration-free electronic shutter that features the world’s first anti-flicker photograph with mechanical and electronic shutter. In addition, the Alpha 1 is able to synchronize the electronic shutter flash up to 1/200 second and up to 1/400 second with the mechanical shutter (this extends to 1/500 when shooting in APS-C crop mode) thanks to that the company is calling its “double-actuated shutter”.

The Alpha 1 has 759 AF points with 92% sensor coverage, which exceeds the A9 series. TI also adds real-time eye AF for bird photography, and general real-time tracking has been enhanced for more reliable tracking and can be done at f / 22.

Sony also mentions that Alpha 1 is a “professional cinema camera”, as it is capable of recording 8K of video at up to 30 frames per second, the first in the Alpha line. Your 8K video is captured through 8.6K to 8K oversampling (oversampling and condensation are a trademark of Sony’s video capabilities). In addition, it can shoot up to 4Kp120 in 10-bit compression 4: 2: 2: All-I. 4K with super-sampling and high quality is also available in Super 35 mode.

Alpha 1 also supports S-Cinetone, which is in the cinema line, which offers cinema colors, as well as 10-bit S-Log3, which offers more than 15 points of dynamic range. The camera also, of course, supports HLG.

As expected, the a2 also supports 5-axis optical body image stabilization to 5.5 stabilization points and a heat dissipation structure for extended recording: 30 minutes in 4Kp60 or 8K. It can also export raw 16-bit video via HDMI.

The Alpha 1 has two media slots that support UHS-I and UHS-II SDXC / SDHC cards, as well as new CFexpress Type A cards for greater overall capacity and faster read / write speeds. It also features a durable magnesium alloy chassis, long battery life with the Z battery that can be extended using the optional VG-C4EM Vertical Grip (sold separately), an improved dust removal feature, shutter close function turn off to protect the sensor image, as well as resistance to dust and moisture that maximizes reliability in challenging environments. Includes a durable and reliable HDMI type A connector and support for USB PD (power supply), allowing more power to be supplied from an external source so users can record for long periods with minimal use of the internal battery.

The Sony Alpha 1 will be available in March 2021 for $ 6,500.
