NFL rumors: insiders don’t seem to agree with Carson Wentz’s future as an eagle

With a coach finally hired at Nick Sirianni, the Eagles’ biggest off-season question now is officially what to do with Carson Wentz, the former (and perhaps future? Jalen Hurts.

Wentz would have been dissatisfied with his bank and appeared to be at odds with former coach Doug Pederson. Without Pederson and Sirianni, will Wentz be ready to resolve his differences with the organization?

Also … do the Eagles still want Wentz as QB1?

If you listen to some of the most connected NFL reporters today, your guess sounds as good as theirs.

On Monday, two very solid and well-informed football reporters offered versions of what they heard about the Wentz situation.

First, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, according to 94WIP:

“I mentioned this when Doug was fired and everyone said, ‘Well, that means Carson Wentz is back.’ … No. There’s more to it. “

So, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports:

“I think the Eagles will try to make it work with Carson Wentz, so I don’t think he will be there, alone.”

Very interesting, although also a little confusing.

It seems, for the time being, that more pressure will be on the Eagles to settle things with Wentz if the two sides will reconcile next season. Glazer’s report makes it look like the Eagles want Wentz back, while Garafolo’s report makes it look like Wentz is still bitter, although it leaves the Eagles’ participation in the relationship obscure.

There are a few ways in which these next steps can work.

The Eagles could contact Wentz and say that they still want him to be the starting quarterback, and Wentz could explain that he still wants to be here.

The Eagles could get in touch with Wentz and say that they still want him to be the starting quarterback, but Wentz could not want to fix the relationship and eventually ask for an exchange.

Or the Eagles can contact Wentz, say they still want him in Philadelphia, but they don’t guarantee a job in QB1, and see how Wentz reacts.

It’s all fascinating and it seems that no one – not even the NFL insiders, and maybe not even Wentz or the Eagles – knows exactly what’s coming.
