Walgreens, Jewel Osco opens COVID Vaccine Appointments for Illinois Residents in Phase 1B – NBC Chicago

As of Monday, several Walgreens and Jewel-Osco stores began vaccinating or opened consultations for Illinois residents eligible for Phase 1B vaccine launch in the state.

Phase 1B offers vaccinations for people aged 65 and over, as well as “essential frontline workers”, which includes first responders, educators such as teachers and support staff, day care centers, grocery workers, postal workers and more.

There are several ways that eligible residents can be vaccinated, but state officials have asked for patience while the new phase opens.

According to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Walgreens has started providing vaccines at 92 locations across the state. Jewel-Osco will start vaccinations on Tuesday, but launched its website to schedule appointments on Monday.

The state said “additional pharmaceutical partners will be online and opening the registry for consultations” in the coming days.

A spokeswoman for Walmart confirmed on Friday that starting this week and next, the major retailer will begin supplying vaccines in the city of Chicago and also in Indiana, along with six other states.

The company already supplies vaccines in New Mexico and Arkansas, where it is based. (For more information on the vaccine launch, click here.)

In addition to Walgreens and Jewel-Osco, the Illinois Department of Public Health also launched a website for qualified residents to find vaccination events and make appointments.

“This website will serve as a hub for all vaccine-related information, directing residents to the appointment scheduling pages of our 97 local health departments and our partner pharmacies, which will total hundreds of locations across the state,” said Pritzker in a statement, it also includes information about our first Illinois National Guard mass vaccination site, which opens tomorrow at the Tinley Park Convention Center, and will be updated as more state-run locations and hundreds of additional local options Since the federal supply is currently limited and every state in the country is facing a shortage, I urge all citizens of Illinois to regularly check available consultations – and in the meantime, hide, keep your distance, wash your hands and remember us’ I will be healthy and safe if we take care of each other. ”
