Tony Ferguson sends reminder to Dustin Poirier after McGregor KO

Tony Ferguson has not forgotten what happened.

Ferguson was linked to a fight against former UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier last October, at UFC 254, until Conor McGregor entered the equation. After McGregor talked about wanting to pass it on to Poirier and do it for charity, things changed.

Eventually, the UFC got involved and scored a rematch at UFC 257. After knocking out McGregor last Saturday at his main attraction on “Fight Island”, Poirier went on Twitter declaring himself the UFC 155 pound champion, despite no title at stake against McGregor, since Khabib Nurmagomedov remains retired.

That’s when Ferguson came in with a straight answer on Sunday night (via Twitter)

“Good fight, but you dodged me, boy,” wrote Ferguson, accompanied by the hashtag #SeeYouSoon.

With his McGregor submission, Poirier apparently sealed a chance for a title that would be vacant. He also expressed interest in a McGregor trilogy or in fighting Nate Diaz during the UFC 257 post-fight press conference.

If Poirier fought for the title, his favorite opponent appears to be Charles Oliveira, who comes in a run of eight straight wins and, more recently, dominated Ferguson in the unanimous decision at UFC 256.

This makes it difficult to imagine a scenario in which Poirier would fight, consider a fight with Ferguson next. Ferguson, who came in a 12-game winning streak, was won in 2020 and is riding the first skid of two fights of his career after being submitted by Justin Gaethje and Oliveira’s defeat.
