The Orange County Health Agency reported 1,795 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, January 24, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 223,288 cases since the screening began.
There were 13 new deaths reported by the county on Sunday, bringing the total number of reported deaths to 2,638.
Data on deaths in the county are compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on January 13.
The county also reported 1,732 patients in local hospitals, which is 86 fewer than in the previous report. There are 467 patients listed in intensive care units on Sunday.
It is estimated that 31,427 cases of the virus have been reported in Orange County in the past 14 days.
The county update said 2,560,248 tests have been performed for the coronavirus since the tests started locally, with at least 15,466 new tests since the previous report.
Of the 2,638 cumulative deaths reported by the virus, 787 were qualified residents in nursing facilities, 285 were in assisted living facilities, one was an OC inmate and four were listed as homeless.
The breakdown of deaths by age in the county is as follows:
- 85 and older: 34.46% (909, up to 6)
- 75-84: 22.67% (598, up to 1)
- 65-74: 19.18% (506, up to 2)
- 55-64: 13.27% (350, up to 4)
- 45-54: 6.86% (181)
- 35-44: 2.12% (56)
- 25-34: 1.21% (32, up to 1)
- 18-24: 0.19% (5)
- 17 and younger: 0.04% (1)
It is estimated that about 153,862 people have recovered from the virus by Sunday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative case count from the previous 28 days.

Vaccines administered from January 17
The California Department of Public Health website shows a total of 3,226,775 doses of vaccine, which includes the first and second doses, were sent to local health departments and health systems as of January 17.
The totals of vaccines administered in six different regions are shown on the maps below. On January 17, a total of 1,393,224 doses of vaccine were administered across the state. That is 609,748 compared to the January 11 report. The state warns that the numbers do not represent the real change from day to day, as reports can be delayed.
