“I have several parents, I have children everywhere.”
Being a co-parent can be one of life’s biggest challenges, and Kate Hudson is doing this with three different parents. The actor recently opened up about what it’s like for her in the midst of the pandemic and the constant balance between work and parenting, and it’s definitely not easy.
“You know, I have a lot of parents, I have kids everywhere,” said Kate Sunday today, her two-year-old daughter Rani Rose who she shares with her partner Danny Fujikawa, 9-year-old Bingham she had with her ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, and 17-year-old Ryder, whose father is her ex-husband Chris Robinson.

For Kate, taking care of paternity and co-paternity in the right way is her highest priority. “The only expectations that I really have and that are very high in my life are with my children,” she said. “And with family stuff. Other than that, it’s like, I just let it go. I work hard and then I leave and hope for the best. “
Co-parenting is very important to Kate, partly because she “didn’t know” her own father, musician Bill Hudson. (She was raised by her mother Goldie Hawn and her longtime partner Kurt Russell.) “I think the departure is unfortunately quite common,” she said. “I think it’s important for people to talk about it. If they are unable to reconnect or if it is too challenging, that’s okay, right? “
“I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who intervened and played a very important role, sharing what it is like to have a trusted father figure in our life, ”she said. “But that doesn’t detract from the fact that we didn’t know our father.”
“I think as I go through this process … I kind of look at my dad and I’m like, ‘You know, love never went anywhere. It was always there, no matter what those complications were. “
“I want to be, like, ‘Yes, it’s so good and we’re finding out’, but the reality is that there are days that are great and there are days that I have to remember to be grateful for.”
Today, Kate is working to balance everything – and sometimes, yes, that includes going to the bathroom just for some time alone.
“I never thought of a million years that I would spend a year in one place,” explained Kate. “When you have so many kids, sometimes you have those times when you’re hiding in the bathroom and you say, ‘Please, please, get me out of here!'”
But then she puts it all in perspective: “I just remember that there are a lot of people out there who have lost their loved ones, and we just have to stay here for a while.”
By following Kate’s advice and staying at home – and wearing a mask and social distance when we go out – we can all save lives.
