Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Capitol troublemaker accused of threatening to ‘murder’ a New York congresswoman

Texas’s Garret Miller faces five criminal charges stemming from the Capitol uprising, including trespassing offenses and death threats. Miller reportedly tweeted “murdering AOC”, according to court documents.

He also said that the police officer who fatally shot a Trump supporter during the attack “deserves to die” and will not “survive long” because he is “hunting[g] season.”

Prosecutors said in recently released court documents that Miller posted extensively on social media before and during the attack, saying that a “civil war could start” and “the next time we bring in the weapons”.

He was arrested on Wednesday, according to the Justice Department. Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to keep him in prison until trial, and a detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Miller’s lawyer, Clint Broden, told CNN on Saturday that his client “certainly regrets what he did”.

“He did this in support of former President (Donald) Trump, but he regrets his actions. He has the support of his family, and many of the comments are seen in context as a kind of misguided political hyperbole. Given the political divide, days , there is a lot of hyperbole, “said Broden.
