A Resident Evil source says Resident Evil 7 will receive an update to take advantage of the PS5 and Xbox Series X features | S.
This week was very busy for Resident Evil fans after Capcom officially revealed a ton of new information for the next episode of the series, Resident Evil: Village. The game was officially confirmed for release next May, and while there is a lot to expect in the next chapter of the series, those looking to return to their predecessor can look forward to some kind of next generation improvements.
On Twitter, well known resident Evil Insider Dusk Golem shared additional information that was not revealed during Capcom’s RE Showcase yesterday, including that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard apparently will receive a next generation update on PS5 and Xbox Series X | In addition, it was also mentioned in his tweets that VR was also in the works for RE Village, but it’s still unclear whether the title will support VR functionality at launch. Although this is just a rumor at the moment, previously Dusk Golem was known for sharing accurate details about Resident Evil: Village just before its launch, giving some credibility to the claims.
I know that VR was at some point, I don’t know the current status. To do VR, they need consistent performance for motion sickness, I think. There are other things that are 100% happening that they, for some reason, did not mention here, like the RE7 Next-Gen patch. https://t.co/1zNHti0k0x

As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the original title, Capcom is likely to have much more to celebrate the series’ milestone that was not announced in the RE Showcase. Besides RE Village, the studio is also launching Resident Evil Re: Verse as a free multiplayer experience that pits players against each other like many of the most iconic heroes and villains in the series. Likewise, it wouldn’t be very surprising if we end up seeing RE7 get a next generation update to coincide with the series’s anniversary.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
