12 virus deaths, over 500 cases added in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – The El Paso Department of Public Health reported 12 coronavirus-related deaths and 525 new cases on Friday morning.

All 12 of the latest victims had underlying health problems, according to health officials, and included:

  • 1 woman in her 50s
  • 2 men in their 60s
  • 2 women in their 60s
  • 2 men in their 70s
  • 5 men in their 80s

The death toll in the pandemic in El Paso County has increased to 1,636,

There were still 524 deaths listed as under investigation on Thursday. These are suspected deaths by Covid-19 that have not yet been confirmed, although historically the majority of suspected deaths have been confirmed by health officials.

The number of active cases increased from 34,943 to 35,021.

As of Friday morning, there were 471 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in El Paso, 19 more than on Thursday. The number of intensive care patients increased from 162 to 166.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 109,108 confirmed cases in El Paso, with 71,891 recoveries reported.
