Consumer insights firm sees huge increase in switch owners who have no other console in the past year
Nintendo is expanding the console market with the Switch in the same way it did with the Wii, according to a new report by Interpret, the consumer insights agency.
According to Interpret’s quarterly New Media Measure survey of 9,000 U.S. consumers, 2020 saw a significant jump in the number of Switch owners with no other gaming console in their homes.
Last year, 25% of switch owners reported having no other console, more than double the 12% of respondents in 2019 who owned a switch, but nothing more.
The Switch also gained traction as a second console option, as the number of people who reported owning a console other than the Switch increased from 25% in 2019 to 35% last year.
“We can infer from this that Nintendo has been expanding the overall pie of consoles (just as it did with the original Wii) as new console players enter the market,” said Interpret.
