‘Derek DelGaudio’s IN & OF YOURSELF, ‘a film directed by Frank Oz, is being broadcast on Hulu from Friday, January 22.
Both Derek DelGaudio and Frank Oz are on Stephen Colbert’s show tonight (Thursday, January 21) talking about making this film interpretation of Derek’s live, interactive and solo performance experience.
We covered the performance here at Boing Boing, and here in 2016. We really love Derek’s work at Boing Boing. And I really love this movie.

I watched this movie months ago and was deeply moved. I never saw the performance live, so it was completely new to me.
I don’t want to reveal too much, but I can say that FOR YOURSELF it seems to me a kind of medicine for the soul now, and @derek_del and @TheFrankOzJam are really launching their collaboration at the right time.
Transcendental things.
So take the time, maybe tonight, if you’re reading this after the release date, and watch it – maybe alone, maybe with someone you care about.

In & Of Itself, by Derek DelGaudio, is a new type of lyric. It tells the story of a man struggling to see through the illusion of his own identity, only to discover that his own identity is an illusion.
In & Of Itself was a unique theatrical experience, created by Derek DelGaudio and directed by Frank Oz. The show had its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on May 3, 2016, where it saw several extensions before moving to the Daryl Roth Theater in New York. He debuted Off-Broadway with critical acclaim and once again quickly extended his initial 10-week contract, selling his 150-seat intimate home night after night. The show continued to extend its duration, over and over again, until DelGaudio decided (somewhat controversially) to end the show at the height of its success, declaring, “I feel like I said what I meant.” After 72 weeks, 560 performances and grossing more than $ 7 million at the box office, In & Of Itself closed as one of the most successful shows in off-Broadway history.
