Sony changed the release dates for several titles, including “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”, “Cinderella” by Camila Cabello, “Uncharted” with Tom Holland and “Morbius” by Sony / Marvel starring Jared Leto.
“Cinderella” will be released in theaters on July 16 instead of February 5. This delay overcomes the adaptation of the video game “Uncharted”, which was originally scheduled for mid-July, on February 11, 2022. Meanwhile, “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” went back two months, from April 2 to June 11 . In turn, the “Ghostbusters” sequel has been postponed to November 11.
The latest change to Sony’s calendar came minutes after MGM postponed “No Time to Die”, the last installment of James Bond, from April to October 8. With “No Time to Die” scheduled to open on the same day as another Sony title, “Morbius,” the film officially moved to January 21, 2022. Earlier this month, the studio changed the comic book thriller led by Jared Leto March to its current date in early October.
Many expected “Cinderella” to abandon its February release date because the studio had not released a single fragment of marketing or promotional material for the adaptation of the fairy valley directed by Kay Cannon. With the vacancy of “Cinderella”, Disney and “The King’s Man” of the 20th century (March 12) it is the only major title still scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
While most major films scheduled for the first few months of the year have already fled into mid-summer or later, traditional Hollywood studios can continue to postpone the hurdles if coronavirus cases continue to rise. Moviegoing has been slow to return in the United States, as evidenced by the lackluster box office. Last weekend, Liam Neeson’s action thriller “The Marksman” won the weekend with just $ 3 million. These ticket sales are certainly not inspiring big studios to take a chance on their hottest movies.
